Duquesne, like most towns in the Monongahela River Valley, suffered the catastrophic loss of business and industry when many of the nation's steel mills closed in the late 1980's.
Since that time, Duquesne has continued to decay as crime and social apathy increased amid the decline of property values. The high school has closed, the tax base has dried up and those who are descended from the people who built the town have moved their families to more prosperous communities.
This blog is an on-going photography project that will be continually updated.
